The Turkish footwear industry remains an important part of the country's economy, even if the product today is very different from the footwear on the left of this century old image. (the footwear on the right, on the other hand, seems still to be in vogue.) In the past, the Turkish footwear industry sold almost 90% of its products in the domestic market. This has changed in recent years, and much of its product is now exported to Europe and elsewhere. The Turkish footwear industry is labor intensive and depends largely on smaller companies.
