[Original] Madjmoual tecavir (Collection de costumes). [end]
Turkish clothes in the early 19th century were heavily influenced by the symbols and motifs of the Ottoman Empire. The dresses were mostly handwoven from wool and cotton. Men generally wore long outer coats over their flowing robes while the women wore abayas, loose-fitting garments which covered them from top to toe.
The European-style for men during this period comprised tunics, plaited shirts with long sleeves and loose cloaks or coats. Shoes were often worn with long stockings and hats of different shapes covered the head.
