York Street is in the heart of Fort area and runs to Colombo harbour

York Street is most famous for being the address of the Grand Oriental Hotel (GOH) which was built in 1837 and converted into a hotel in 1875. One of the hotel's most famous guests was Anton Chekhov who stayed there in 1890 while still an unknown Russian author.
