Written and pronounced, ìColpetty,î the narrow slice of land along Galle Road in Colombo, Sri Lanka was actually named, Kollupitiya. Situated at the edge of the Indian Ocean, Colombo's evidence of British colonial rule can be seen in the fort, the Colpetty Bazaar (with its many shops), and the Galle Face Hotel, a Victorian-styled architectural gem where royalty and famous writers have resided.
In the 6th century BCE, the Indo-Aryan people migrated to the island of Sri Lanka from India.
