The Peradeniya Bridge was constructed in July 1832 by Captain Fraser
The Peradeniya Bridge crosses the Mahaweli River near Kandy. Elephant carts used it to bring wooden up from Puttalam. The bridge is constructed from satinwood, and was designed to use no bolts. The wooden construction is supported by massive stone foundations and supports and offered what early British travelers found to be a most picturesque scene in the jungle forest.
