The Sacred Tooth is thought to be one of the only surviving relics of Gautama Buddha
Buddhist monks of Asgiriya and Malwatte perform ritual daily worship in the inner sanctum of the Temple of the Sacred Tooth. Services are held three times a day: at dawn, noon, and in the evening. Every Wednesday there is a symbolic bathing of the sacred relic using scented water and fragrant flowers. This Buddhist ritual is known as Namura Mangallaya. The relic itself is the Buddha's left canine tooth.
