The Parian Gate in Intramuros faced Manila's Chinese quarter
The Parian Gate, Intramuros, was the Chinese merchant doorway to the walled city, where much of the city's business was conducted. After 1780, the Parian Gate became known as Puerta Real. The Spanish mistrusted the Chinese and would only allow them access through the gate closest to the Chinese quarter.
