The traditional form of water transport throughout Philippine history has been the "banca", or boat

Bancas, or traditional boats, come in all shapes, colors and sizes. This images demonstrates the use of easily available building materials like bamboo and wood. Prior to Spanish colonization, there were few bridges in the Philippines and all waterways were traversed by boats.
