Nowshera is a major district in the North West Frontier Province, Pakistan
Nowshera city is famous for its cantonment, and is home to the Pakistan Army School of Artillery and School of Armour. The area has been settled by many famous Pakhtun tribes including the Khattaks and Babers. It is also at the junction of Peshawar and Swat Roads and near the Indus River.
The Bridge of Boats over the Indus shown here was a major element in the logistical operations for British army expeditions in the north west frontier and Afghanistan during the 19th and 20th centuries.
