Posing stylishly on a sofa, this Burmese woman wearing an Ingyis or long sleeved shirt and a colored skirt is in a courtesan's pose. D.A. Ahuja, the leading producer of early postcards of Burma, published a large number of similar courtesan cards. Given that this courtesan is named, she would have been very well-known around the turn of the century and probably was from Rangoon (now Yangon). |
