Originating in Tibet, the Salween River is called as "Thanlwin" when it flows through Mynanmar.

 |
Several major tributaries like the Pawn, Pang, Hka, Teng and Hsim Rivers join the Salween in Myanmar. Salween (Thanlwin) River forms the border boundary between Thailand and Burma for approximately 120 kilometers, before meeting the Moei River, a key tributary of the Salween. People living in the Salween basin belong to different ethnic groups. These people depend heavily on upland swidden (shifting) cultivation and lowland rice-paddy farming. |
