Girls in Traditional Dress in the Kachin Region (Jingphaw) of Myanmar (formerly Burma). From 1885 and 1935, the British imposed the Pax (Peace) Britannica on the hills of the Kachin (Jingphaw) region of Myanmar. The Kachin are well known in the West for their heroic resistance to the Japanese invasion during World War II. Due to the work of Christian missionaries, who introduced Western education there, a majority of people in the Kachin region are Christian. The Burmese Army quelled a Kachin Rebellion in 1960. |
