The Bengali Sunne Jameh Mosque in Yangon (Rangoon) on Sule Pagoda Road is probably the cities most famous mosque. It was built by the largely Bengali Muslim population that came to Burma during the British colonial era. Indian Muslims came to Burma to do a variety of tasks, and worked as everything from coolies to merchants, traders and teachers. |
