Theebaw (Thibaw) was the younger son of King Mindon and studied in a Buddhist monastery now often called as King Theebaw's Monastery
King Thibaw was strongly influenced by Supayalat, his wife and his mother-in-law. Thibaw's accession to the throne was accompanied by a lot of violence. His brief reign (1878-85) came to an end when the British took complete control of Upper Burma. King Thibaw was strongly influenced by Supayalat, his wife and his mother-in-law.
