Mandalay, the Palace. King Theebaw's Sitting Room.
Mandalay Palace is in the heart of the city, and though destroyed in World War II has been partially re-built with modern materials.
The construction of Mandalay Palace between 1857 - 1861 was one of the last great projects undertaken by Burma's royal rulers before the British took over the whole country in 1885 after the Third Anglo-Burmese War. The Burmese King Theebaw was exiled to India, just as the Mughal Emperor had been exiled to Burma following the war of 1857.
