The ancient city of Mohenjo-daro was divided into two parts, the so-called citadel and stupa mound and the lower town
|
 |
The eroded boundaries of the so-called citadel mounds are covered with pottery and red brick dust. Traces of lighter mud brick reveal the underlying platforms that form the bases of the uppermost buildings. This mound is encircled by a huge mud-brick wall or platform, which is now eroded down to the modern plain level. The Buddhist stupa was constructed directly on top of the former ancient Indus buildings. Towards the left, at the southern tip of the mound, remnants of Indus period constructions in area L are visible. |
