A modern village courtyard reflects ancient Harappa
|

Modern houses in Harappa town present many features that are likely to not have changed since ancient times. The front side of the house shown here has an upper level which is plastered. This place has a small entrance that can be blocked so that animals don't enter the place. Drinking water is stored in earthenwares placed on a wooden stand. A large jujube fruit tree offers a welcome shade to the goats in the lower level of the courtyard. An old oven (tandoor) can be seen on the left hand side. At night, lamps are lighted in the niches made in the wall. |
