The size of fired bricks used in platforms at Mohenjo-daro increased gradually while those in Harappa seem to have decreased
|
 |
A big part of the mud brick platform in the UM Area was removed to ensure that no other brick structures were hidden underneath. The fired bricks used in the upper buildings measured 7 x 15 x 29 cm (roughly of 1:2:4 ratio), while those used in earlier buildings at street level measured 6.5 x 13 x 26 cm (also roughly of 1:2:4 ratio). Dr. George Dales thought that this difference indicated a gradual increase in brick size with the passage of time. However, in Harappa, an opposite trend is found. Earlier bricks were approximately 7 cm thick while those of the later levels were around 6.5 cm thick. |
