Japanese women in traditional kimonos relaxing in a park.
During the Heian period between 794 and 1185, elaborate kimono robes became the standard dress for women in Japan. In the late 19th and early 20th century, the kimono fell out of favor as the most common garment for women but they are still worn for special occasions.
