Mount Fuji volcano is Japan's most famous landmark
Few natural landmarks are so intimately related to a nation's identity as Mount Fuji is to Japanese consciousness. The almost perfect symmetry of the 12,300 foot peak is often the subject of Japanese painting, mythology and literature. Today millions of visitors come to Mount Fuji each year, and some 200,000 climb to the top each summer.
It was also one of the most early popular postcard views, with numerous painted and photographic variations. |
