Japanese homes traditionally constructed of wood and post beams utilized slanted roofs and open floor plans to accommodate rain and humidity.

A deep understanding of the natural environment is exemplified by the architecture of traditional Japanese homes. Residences are usually surrounded by harmonious landscaped gardens. Walls slide to open to gardens or other rooms.
