The Toshogu Temple is one of the most popular destinations in Nikko
The Toshogu Temple is where Tokugawa Ieyasu was buried. Tokugawa Ieyasu (1543 - 1616) was Japan's first Tokugawan Shogun, or a feudal military dictator. Several significant additions were made to Toshogu Temple by shogun Tokugawa Iemitsu, his grandson. The extravagant style of Toshogu Temple in Nikko contrasts with other temples of Japan and account for some of its popularity among tourists and travelers.
