Two Shinto "Torii" gates with the painting of a bird, representing one of the many Shinto "kami" or gods.
Torii gates represent the entrance to a Shinto shrine. Most Torii are made from wood and painted orange and black. Shinto shrines are places of worship and followers of Shintoism pray at shrines for good luck or during special events.
Note the complex set of elements on this postcard: the two black and white photographs of the gates, the colored and embossed tree, bird and border, the real stamp and carefully placed cancellation. |
