It is believed that Shimbi Shoin started business just in the late 1890s. The art reproductions of Shimbi Shoin were marketed in bound volumes, folios of plates, loose prints, wood-cut color and collotype prints. They became very popular in 1906 with the publication of the series called "Selected Relics of Japanese Art" begun by Nippon Bukkyo Shimbi Kyokwai, Kyoto in 1898.
The firm was famous for its high-quality woodblock prints. Shimbi Shoin have a very particular postcard style that echoes woodblock prints. The firm survivied until the late 1930s. |
