Samurais were the aristocratic warriors of Japan and played an important role in Japanese history.
|
 |
Samurais gained importance in the 12th century during the wars between the Taira and Minamoto clans, when these aristocratic warriors helped to determine the outcome. They were the only people allowed to carry swords with them at all times. Samurai values of or unfailing loyalty and indifference to pain and death, known as "bushido" have been romanticized in the arts throughout the centuries. |
