Located in the northern part of Kyoto, Kamigamo Temple became a World Heritage Site in 1994. The presiding deity of this temple is Kamo-wake-ikazuchi-no-kami. This temple was built in the 7th century when Emperor Tenmu ruled the region. The worship hall or "Haiden" is very popular. Only one of the main priest's residences, the "Nishimura House," is open to the public. |
