Wonderful Passageway at the Foot of a Column at Todaiji, Nara
Todaiji is also known as the "Eastern Great Temple"
The construction of Todaiji was completed almost 1,300 years ago. This temple was built by Emperor Shomu as the primary Buddhist temple complex in the country. Its Great Buddha Hall is the world's largest wooden building and houses a large bronze statue of Lord Buddha.
Todai-ji is a UNESCO World Heritage site and serves as the headquarters of the Kegon school, the Japanese version of the Huayan school of Chinese Buddhism.
