Wars in Japan can be traced back to Jomon period (10,000 BCE-400 BCE).
During the feudal period, different clans were engaged in warfare to control regions of Japan. Firearms were introduced during the Azuchi-Momoyama Period in the 16th century. The cannon was apparently introduced to Japan around the same time by the Portuguese.
The modern period in Japanese warfare began with the Russo-Japanese War (1904-1905). This image is likely to be from this conflict. |
