George V, Prince of Wales, laid the foundation stone of Prince of Wales Museum in 1905. It is situated near the gateway of India, in Mumbai, India. The Museum was made to commemorate the visit of the Prince of Wales to India. The Green area around the Prince of Wales Museum enhances its beauty. The museum
has Indus Valley Civilization artifacts and relics from ancient India.
It also has entire gallery devoted to Buddhist tankha scrolls and Tibetan bronzes and a collection of many miniature paintings from various Indian schools of art. The new name of Prince of Wales Museum is Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Museum. During the First World War, it was used as a hospital. |
