Varanasi is located in Uttar Pradesh State of India. The name Varanasi is taken from the Varuna River, to the north, and the Assi River, to the south of city, both are tributaries of the River Ganga. Varanasi is also known as Kashi (luminous), because of its reputation as a center of learning.
The Ganga
Ghats at Varanasi are known as one of the holiest places. On the Ghats of Varanasi we can see life and death together. According to Hindu mythology, Varanasi liberates the soul from the human body. Pilgrims come here to take a dip in the holy Ganga to be absolved from all sins. There are more than 100 Ghats on the side of Ganga in Varanasi.
