Kathakali is one of the oldest dance forms in the world. It originated in Kerala State, India in the early 17th century. Kathakali dance is a group presentation, in which dancers take various roles in
performances. The themes are traditionally taken from Hindu mythology, especially the epics- the Ramayana and the Mahabharata.
The most interesting part in Kathakali dance is its make-up. The make-up has five main parts - Pacha, Kathi, Kari, Thaadi, and Minukku (i.e. green, knife, black, beard, and polish). Performers in Kathakali dance are categorized by their nature. |
