The Kapaleeshwarar temple is a Hindu temple located in Chennai, in the state of Tamil Nadu. Chennai is the capital of Tamil Nadu state. The temple is located in Mylapore, in the central part of
the city. The deity of this temple is a form of Shiva called Kapaleeshwarar and the form of Shiva's wife Parvati at this temple is called Karpagambal (in Tamil for goddess of the wish-yielding tree). The temple has other shrines dedicated to Ganesha and Muruga, with his two wives Valli and Deivayani.
This ancient Shiva temple is a little more than 350 years old and is considered by Hindus to be one of the most sacred Hindu sites in Southern Part of India. The temple is the biggest in the city. It contains inscriptions dating back to the 13th century AD, and is a fine specimen of the Dravidian style of architecture.
