Lord Mahavira is the God of the Jain religion, one of the many religions in India. In Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, there are seven important Jain temples, situated within the Jaisalmer Fort walls. They were
built between the 12th to 15th centuries, are made of yellow sandstone, and rebuit in 1970. The three most important are dedicated to the gods Rishabdevji, Paraswanathji and Sambhavnathji.The Paraswanathji Temple is the largest and the most beautiful.
The temples are one of Jaisalmer's most visited tourist attractions and are open for public visits from early in the morning to 12 in the afternoon. Another important tourist attraction is the ancient library or the Gyan Bhandar that stores a large number of historical texts related to the history of the Jaisalmer Jain temples.  |
