The Hava Mahal, Jaipur, Rajasthan
|
 |
Hava Mahal adjoins the famous City Palace wall. It built in 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh. It has now become one of the major landmarks of Jaipur. The palace is shaped like a
pyramid and is a five-storied building, with many small windows and screens, with arched roofs.
Hava Mahal was built at a time when women of the royal families had to observe strict purdah. Many believe that the Hawa Mahal was built, just so these ladies could watch the various activities taking place on the streets. The Hawa Mahal is a great example of the Rajputana architecture.
Jaipur also popularly known as the Pink City, historically sometimes indicated as Jeypore, is the capital of Rajasthan state, India. Jaipur is the former capital of the princely state of Jaipur. This city was founded in 1727 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II. |
