Thar Desert is also called the Great Indian Desert. It is located between western India and southeastern Pakistan. It is mostly in the Indian state of Rajasthan, and also extends into the southern part of Haryana and Punjab states and up to northern Gujarat state. The main occupation of the people in Thar Desert is agriculture and animal husbandry.
Jaisalmer is a town in the Indian state of Rajasthan. It is also called 'The Golden City'. It is stands on a ridge of yellowish sandstone and is crowned by a fort, which contains the palace and several temples. Many of the houses and temples are beautifully sculptured. Jaisalmer is named after its founder Rawal Jaisal, Jaisalmer means the 'Hill Fort of Jaisal'.  |
