Hindu marriages signify customs, rituals and elaborate celebrations. Traditional Hindu wedding ceremonies last for four to five days. Their function is divided into three parts: pre-wedding ceremony,
main day ceremony and post wedding ceremony. Each day has its own significance; the pre-wedding celebration includes the engagement, sangeet, mehendi, haldi and tilak. The main day function is the wedding day and the post day rituals include vidaai and reception. A wedding is an important religious ceremony in the Hindu religion and one of the most important of the sixteen Hindu sanskars or sacraments.
Manali is on the Beas River valley and an important hill station in the Himalayan Mountains of Himachal Pradesh, India, near the northern end of the Kullu Valley. It is administratively a part of the Kullu District. There are actually two parts of Manali --New-Manali town is on the banks of the Beas river and the Old Manali village lies east of the Manalsu nullah, which in its present form, is more of a hippy enclave. Manali is named after the Hindu lawgiver "Manu". |
