Supply of fresh water to a vast population of the country was a problem in the past when a majority of the people was outside the reach of piped water. Often, carts drawn by bullocks were used to supply vessels filled with water to these people. Sometimes, even bags made of animal hides were filled with water, loaded on the back of the bullock and taken to those in need of it. In other words, water bullocks served an important role, besides the water carriers, in the supply of fresh water to a large number of people. |
