The Hindu religion teaches that the soul of a deceased person passes to the next level of existence after death. Various death rites and rituals of funeral are observed in order to help the departed soul pass over to the next higher level of existence peacefully. Though the basic rites remain same for all the castes, people belonging to the upper castes observe more elaborate rituals.
