Lala Lajpat Rai (January 28, 1865 - November 17, 1928) was one of the leading leaders of the Indian National Congress. He died in 1928 after being wounded in demonstrations against the British Simon Commission. His famous quote about this incident read blow his image on the card published in France read:
[Original caption] "The blow that was hurled at us this afternoon was a nail in the coffin of the British Empire. Nobody who has seen it is ever likely to forget it.
