Itmad-uud-Doula was the chief minister of Jahangir. After Jahangir's wedding to Nur Jahan, the political power was exercised largely by a clique, on behalf of the Emperor, whose members were Nur Jahan, Itmad-uud-Doula, courtier Asaf Khan and Khurram, son of Jahangir. Khurram later rebelled against his father and ascended the throne as Shah Jahan.
The tomb of Itmad-uud-Doula, remnant of Islamic architecture, is believed to be the structure that inspired the Taj Mahal. |
