The Taj Hotel was built to realize Jamsetji N. Tata's dream of a fine hotel to reflect Bombay's mercantile ascendancy. It was completed on December 16, 1903.
In 1970, a new Tower block was added to the Taj. This block was designed by Hong Kong based Dale Keller, a Swiss designer. The Tower block of the Taj was refurbished in the late 1990s when contemporary communication amenities and ergonomic furniture were added to it besides retaining its vintage ambiance. In fact, the Taj Mahal Palace and Tower is famous for its onyx columns, vault shaped alabaster ceilings, silk carpets woven by hand, archways, art collection and crystal chandeliers. |
