Fakirs are considered holy men who can posses miraculous powers

The word "fakir" usually refers to a spiritual recluse, or less generously to common street beggars who chants sacred names and pretend to be religious mendicants to inspire a donation. In this image, Hindu fakirs or religious figures are holding forth near a ghat in the holy city once known as Benares.
