This major urban artery is now called Sidhu Kanu Dahar
Esplanade Row east is located on the northern tip of the Maidan (open field) or huge green area in the city. It dates to the 18th century when the British re-arranged the city as colonial rule became more deeply entrenched. The former Row is connected to B. B. D. Bagh (formerly called Dalhousie Square) by the Old Court House Street. Today Sidhu Kanu Dahar is the preferred location for mass demonstrations by the city's political parties.
