Mughal Emperor Shahjahan built the Diwan-i-Khas of Delhi
|
 |
The structure of Diwan-i-Khas was erected between 1636 and 1637. It has double marble columns which are adorned with pietra dura (highly-polished and exquisitely cut colored stones). The flat roof of Diwan-i-Khas is supported by several arched piers. The sloping eaves have a projection from the parapet that provide additional shade to the interior. Also called the "Hall of Private Audience", the Diwan-i-khas was used by the emperor to receive the visiting dignitaries. This hall was also used for meetings of courtiers. |
