Damayanti also went with him. Afterwards the king Nala left her alone in the forest and went away. This picture represents that she is in great misery and sat thinking. [end]
Damayanti, the princess of Vidarbha, was the wife of king Nala. Nala had a weakness for gambling. His brother Pushkara used this weakness to his advantage and Nala lost his kingdom in a game of dice. Nala and Damayanti had to leave their kingdom and live in the forest. Under the influence of demon Kali, Nala abandoned Damayanti in the forest. Later, Damayanti served as the personal attendant of the Princess of Chedi, keeping her true identity under wraps. After her true identity was discovered, Damayanti returned to her father's house. After sometime, she was able to find Nala, who overcame the influence of Kali and won back his kingdom. The couple lived happily thereafter. |
