The nine yards sari worn by Maratha ladies is called Lugade or Nauvaree. Usually, the hind pleats of Lugade are tucked into the waist at the back-center. The decorated end of the saree covers the bosom and is then thrown over the shoulder to cover the back and the head. However, western dresses and sarees of just five or six yards have replaced the traditional Lugade as everyday wear in most parts of the city.
