Little children were one of the most popular subjects of early postcards from Chennai (Madras)
According to the earliest Hindu texts, the Puranas, Brahmins came from the mouth of Lord Brahma. Their purpose was to give instruction to others. Brahmin children were also educated with great care from a very early age, and it probably was sweet, amusing and unusual to have a little Brahmin girl be the subject of a postcard. Most of the little children in Madras cards from the period wore a lot of jewelry, which also would have made them compelling subjects.
