Baramullah was considered a gate-way to the Kashmir valley

Baramulla District is one of the largest districts of Kashmir valley with respect to population (61,941 according to 2001 census) and area (4588 square kilometers). Raja Bhimsina established the city of Baramullah. Kashmiri is the chief language of Baramulla. Other languages commonly spoken by the local populace include Urdu, Hindkoh and Hindi. English is also spoken by a handful of people of Baramulla. |
