|
 |
Construction began in 15th century on the Temple of Heaven. The temple grounds span nearly 3 square kilometers and all the buildings have dark blue roof tiles that represent heaven. The temple is registered as a UNESCO Heritage site and a prime location for tourists to Beihing to visit today. The large grounds make walking around a pleasant activity. Its importance in Chinese history lies in the fact that each Emperor would visit here each year to pray for a bountiful harvest. |
