The tartars responsible for the construction of the outer city wall of Peking were originally from the areas north of China in what is now known as Mongolia, Manchuria and Turkestan. The wall is fortified with buttresses, several gates and is made from stone, brick and mortar.
It is estimated that the tartars first clashed with the Chinese in 206 AD. and continued to fight them until 1644 AD.
